addition to the United States Sears website www.sears.com. This is the
website for the department store and offers an extended range of items
to purchase online that mirror the merchandise offered in Sears’s
stores. The website is available for viewing in both English and French.
The sears.ca website is arranged with a main tab ribbon at the top
directing the user to a gift registry, sears club points balance,
catalogues and flyers, and the ability to order from the catalog. A
second ribbon allows the user to be directed towards merchandise
organized logically by department. Example departments include women,
men, shoes, beauty and fragrance, electronics, fitness and recreation
and more. As each department is selected, the subpages are organized
into columns where filters can be applied to more easily search for
merchandise. For example, if the shoes department is selected the
choices are select shoes by gender, brand, feature, price, customer
rating, and size. Each filter on the sears.ca website has the number of
listings for each selection in parentheses which helpful for the user to
see at a glance how many items are in each filter.
In addition to the main departments, there is also the ability to select
Overstocks on the second filter ribbon on the sears.ca website.
Overstocks are what the name implies, limited quantity merchandise
offered at discount or clearance prices. Often there is only one or two
sizes available and limited colors. The user can add items to their cart
and checkout either as a registered Sears website user or alternatively
as a guest for a one time purchase. At the bottom of the website are extensive links to customer service,
credit and finance, and other miscellaneous services such as gift cards,
sears travel and installation, and even Sears flowers. The website
sears.ca is well designed and has a good representation of merchandise
that mirrors what is available in Sears stores.
