jobs serviceNational Health Service is a UK government Agency that is charged with
the responsibility of recruiting, compensating and looking into the
affairs of civil servants who work within the UK Health Care Sector. It
has an affiliate company called NHS Jobs which is its primary
recruitment arm. It does so mainly through the internet at
www.jobs.nhs.uk portal. It receives vacancies from England and Wales,
posts them on its portal after which it receives and processes
applications from job-seekers across the UK.
It is estimated that since its inception in the year 2003, it has saved
over 240million pounds in recruitment fees and expenses incurred by
job-seekers. This arises out of the fact that administrative and other
recruitment-related expenses are greatly reduced on advertising, hiring
and interview charges. Its portal, jobs.nhs.uk attracts approximately 6
million visitors each day. It receives approximately one-quarter of a
million applications each month.
It serves four main functions: paying and negotiating with employers
during the recruitment process, recruiting and planning the
organization’s work force, it advises on how to create a healthy and
conducive environment for work and advises the clients on better
employment policies and best practices. It also shares job vacancies
with local recruitment agencies to ensure equity and fairness in
employment particularly to the local communities.
The organization has an “Acceptable Use Policy”, which refers to terms
and conditions that employers and job-seekers must adhere to in the
course of taking advantage of its services. These include protection of
private data, avoiding abusive languages, posting honest vacancies among
many others. Failure to adhere to the set standards leads to revocation
of registration from its portal. Since it serves users across the
United Kingdom, it has, and indeed translated its web contents to other
languages that are widely spoken in the UK apart from English such as
Welsh, Scottish and Cymraeg.
