ToysAt www.zhuzhupets.com visitors find a site to use with the Zhu Zhu Pet
toys, a winner of the 2010 Toy of the Year Awards. Zhu Zhu Pets are
motorized hamsters created to allow boys and girls ages 4 and up, the
opportunity to experience having a cute cuddly hamster without the clean
up, the smell, or responsibility that comes with actual living pets.
They were created by Russ Hornsby, in part by Eric Zhu, for his company,
Cepia, LLC. The website offers links to Wal-Mart, Toys R Us,
amazon.com, eToys.com, and Target where parents can purchase the toys
and their accessories. The site offers an opportunity to view five
commercials for the product.
The site educates consumers on all things Zhu. For parents the site
provides a link containing information about the toy in the Frequently
Asked Questions section and instructions on how to maintain and operate
the Zhu Zhu Pets. There is also a link for spare parts so that consumers
can keep their pets “alive”. These spare or replacement parts for the
hamsters and their accessories are provided through a partnership with
Lighthouse for the Blind, a company that provides employment for blind
and legally blind individuals. A link is also provided for trouble
shooting with tips for both parents and children. There are instruction
sheets for operation and assembly available on the site for any of the
Zhu Zhu Pet products that are available.
Zhuzhupets.com is targeted at a young audience with features such as a
Hamster blog where young users can read posts about their favorite Zhu,
learn of chances to win prizes, see pictures of Zhu’s in places like the
zoo, and read jokes told by the Zhu’s. Zhu fans are referred to as
Zhunatics. For entertainment the Fun Stuff tab offers games like Maze
Runner, Hamster Raceway, and Don’t Whack the Hamster. There is also a
link to download the hamsters’ very first music recording, the “Zhu Zhu
Flo”. Zhunatics will also find bios for 20 of the hamsters available, as
each pet has its own personality, name, and birthday.
Registration is not required to use the website. However, you may sign
up for the sites Newsletter for updates. If a consumer does not wish to
sign up for the newsletter, checking the News and Events tab will offer
links to various newspaper articles featuring the toy. There is also
information about Zhu tours and video clips from news broadcasts
available.
