Music Video

The largest worldwide video community is available at www.youtube.com and is available in 34 languages. The sites slogan is “Broadcast Yourself” and that is really what is offered here. Originally founded in 2005 by three former Pay Pal employees, the site was purchased by Google, Inc. in 2006. It is a user friendly website that provides people a forum to express themselves, through their talents, their opinions, sense of humor, or just how they spend their free time with their friends.

Accounts for youtube.com are free and registration is optional. Users that register are then able to comment on or upload their own videos, and share their favorite videos by linking them to other social networking sites; users that are not registered are only able to view the sites content. People have their own shows that they broadcast on the site. These shows run in a television show format and are referred to as webisodes. Another example of a webisode is a short episode that airs initially as internet television before being shown on a network or cable television. Each registered user is assigned there own Channel, users can then subscribe to each others Channels. Channels that get the most views are then moved into the websites Most Popular, Most Viewed, or Most Subscribed sections.

Youtube.com makes it easy for users to learn their way around the site by offering a “YouTube 101” series that offers easy to follow tutorials on the sites basic features. Should a user get stuck the site offers a Help Center link. The general rules for use can be found under the Community Guidelines link. The site tries to provide a safe place for people of all ages to express themselves through their original videos. These videos can be viewed using a computer, some smart phones, Apple TV, an iPod, an iPhone, as well as, on the video game consoles PlayStation 3 and Wii.

The site puts the videos into categories included, but not limited to, Music Videos, How to Videos, Entertainment, Sports, Gaming, and Comedy. There are complete episodes of television shows available for viewing or just some favorite clips from shows, and even commercials. Viewers can learn to do virtually anything by looking up and watching a How to Video, by just typing in a few keywords into the sites search bar. There is also a category available where users can make blog posts.
