food restaurantsOpen Table is a website that allows users to make reservations at
participating restaurants. As of November, 2011, there are more than
20,000 worldwide restaurants available. Availability is displayed in
real-time at many restaurants, as Open Table is directly linked to some
restaurants’ electronic reservation system. Users can make reservations
24 hours a day, and get instant confirmation.
Diners can search for restaurants using criteria such as price range,
location and cuisine. Search results then display the name, rating and
available reservation times for each restaurant meeting the criteria.
Reservations are made by selecting a time. Diners can also browse the
website and simply select their state or metro area to find a list of
interesting local restaurants, new additions and those with the highest
ratings.
Potential diners have access to a wealth of information about each of
the restaurants. Each restaurant has a blurb about the concept, as well
as vital information like opening hours, price range, credit cards
accepted, location, dress code and parking. A second tab provides
reviews of the restaurant from other Open Table users. Diners rate
restaurants based on the food, ambience and service, give a word to
describe the noise level and an overall rating from one to five stars.
Open Table offers a mobile app for most smart phone platforms, and a
mobile version of its website. These allow diners to find local
restaurants using their phone’s GPS feature. The mobile website is as
fully-featured as the main website, but offers a scaled-down layout
designed specifically for smaller screens. Most restaurants are close to major metropolitan areas, although the
searches do stretch into the suburbs. The website caters mostly to
American visitors, but European and Middle Eastern and Latin American
visitors can also make reservations at local restaurants on Open Table.
